Jury Trials Only Permitted in Green Zone
In a Notice to the Profession, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has advised that, effective November 23, 2020, there will be no new jury selection in any court locations, except those in a Green Zone as defined by the Ontario Government. This will remain in effect until at least January 4, 2021. Jury trials in progress can continue, subject to the discretion of the trial judge.
In Toronto and Peel, any new non-jury matters that proceed in person must have no more than 10 people in the courtroom.
Chief Justice Morawetz strongly encourages virtual proceedings in all regions wherever possible.
